About Jae

Jae Wyllie Willard is a comprehensive designer, from brainstorming with clients, developing architectural designs, to installing the finishing decorative custom details herself.  Inspired by design legends like mid century modern furniture designers Ray & Charles Eames and the modern day Marcel Wanders, she believes design doesn’t have to be so serious, structured and formal. Adding a flair of fun, but paying detailed attention to the clients’ lifestyle, function of space, comfort and aesthetics, are key elements to her designs.
Although earning her Interior Architecture & Design degree, and starting her career in Chicago {see typical bio info below if desired}, she now lives and plays in the little state of RI, with any and all mediums.

Jae’s recent primary focus has been interior architectural designs, mostly for high end residential remodeling and small scale commercial projects, but also her love of adding custom details to her interior design projects from her design studio BicycleTricycle.

Some of her favorites to play with:
lighting, furniture/upholstery, custom wallpapers & paint colors, built ins, millwork, textiles, product design, art installations, window treatments, recently designing powder room vanities & hardware {which has been interesting}, small landscaping projects, children’s toys, wood working, accessories, photography, and anything else she can get her hands on or imagine!

Need a designer for one of the above? Have a project or an idea you think Jae Willard Designs would be interested in, or feedback on your own project? How about a dynamic buyer, queen of sourcing, and cheap-ass, hard-ball negotiator?

The Somewhat Extended Bio Info, because there really is SO much more….
Jae Wyllie Willard received her Interior Design and Architecture degree at Harrington College of Design, Chicago, IL.  Jae’s passion for design started during undergraduate at North Park University, when she worked in a little paint shop in Evanston, IL, quickly moving from sales to the Decorating Showroom Manager. It was there she learned her phenomenal understanding of paint colors, how to mix custom colors, coordinate fabrics for window treatments, and an in depth knowledge of countless wallpaper lines.
Wanting to express her love for Swedish design and culture {having gone to high school there}, Jae then became the Studio Manager for Andrew Hollingsworth; a unique Scandinavian antiques dealer/gallery. Though she appreciated her time at AH, being involved in an Architectural Digest shoot and coordinating a large design event, Jae realized it was key to work under an accomplished designer before graduating.
So she became the first intern to be hired on as a Junior Designer for Michael Richman Interiors. MRI was a great experience. She learned the importance of timeless design, adding glamour and sophistication, truly listening to the clients’ needs vs desires, but to also add your own special touch as the designer.
Jae then had the opportunity to work for former HGTV host and design author Joan Kohn. A dream job she couldn’t resist! While working for Mud Pie Productions, founded by Joan Kohn, Jae assisted in all aspects of developing two new design books and articles for various magazine publications. It was a life changing experience being exposed and introduced to countless internationally acclaimed architects, designers, and architectural photographers through sourcing images, negotiating contracts for publication, and interviews. Shortly before moving to RI, Mud Pie Productions also started developing a new design television series for PBS, which was exciting.                                                                                                                                                             Since living in RI, Jae has enjoyed working with her amazing residential and commercial freelance clients through Jae Willard Designs.  But also working as an Architectural Designer & Project Manager at Red House Custom Building for the past two years. While there Jae gained experience overseeing five lead carpenters and their crews, as they remodeled high end homes with her architectural designs and interior finishes.
These incredible professional experiences and being a world traveler from a very young age, have helped shape the foundation of Jae Willard Designs. They’ve given her the ability to take clients’ ideas and styles to the next level, while successfully collaborating with artists / builders / carpenters / subcontractors, creating functional architectural designs with unique custom aesthetics.
